ABOUT
Aysu Hazar is a BACP registered psychotherapist and a couples and family therapist who embraces a systemic approach with a focus of Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy. She provides face-to-face and online psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families. She also conducts seminars and workshops for colleagues and for people who are interested in their psychological growth.
Qualifications & Psychotherapeutic Approach
Aysu Hazar has completed her graduate studies in İstanbul Bilgi University Clinical Psychology Master’s Program and specialized in couples and family therapy with an eclectic approach of psychodynamic and systemic theories. Additionally, she completed a 3-year specialization program, convened by Sibel Erenel of Satir Human Growth and Family Therapy Institute and approved by Satir Pacific Institute, on Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy. Her psychotherapeutic approach also lays emphasis on the concept of playfulness as demonstrated by her master`s thesis “Couple Playfulness and Effects of Playful Techniques in Couples Therapy: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis”. By exploring playfulness among couples and accordingly creating a short-term couples therapy programme, she continues to develop and incorporate playful techniques in adult therapy, and conducts professional workshops to raise greater awareness towards playfulness.
Following Üsküdar American Academy, she graduated from Koç University with a psychology major and a sociology minor. During her undergraduate studies she took part in Assoc. Prof. Bilge Yağmurlu’s research on “Parenting in Asian and Middle Eastern Culture” which was a joint project of Koç University and Maryland University; and Dr. Ceyla Erhan Karamancı’s research on “Decision Making in OCD, ADHD, and Tourette’s Syndrome Populations: A Study Using Drift Diffusion Modelling”.
Professional Experience
Since 2010 she has been active in her field. Her internships in Erenkoy Psychiatric Hospital, Marmara University Training and Research Hospital, and with couples and family therapist İrem Bray are among her long-term clinical experiences. Between 2016-2019 she worked with Sibel Erenel as a psychotherapist, an education program assistant, and an instructor in Satir Human Growth and Family Therapy Institute. Additionally she has been volunteering in causes that are close to her heart; providing musical therapy with piano and percussion and art therapy to children who have been diagnosed with Down syndrome, working as psychologist in Kadikoy Municipality Children Arts Centre, and conducting a workshop on children’s psychological well-being for Ayvalık/Kadıköy Municipal Centres Olive Seeds Project are some of her work.
She is a registered member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), Creative Counsellors Association (CCA), and Couples and Family Therapy Association (CATED). When she was an active member of Research and Professional Development Committees in CATED; creating a social awareness on mental health, extending and enhancing research on couples and family therapy, and preparing a mental health law proposal to the government of Turkey were among her responsibilities.
